How to find LG firmware for your device

You can find firmware for your LG device at a couple different site and today we will discuss of couple of them and ways you can identify which LG device you own. It is very important that you get the right firmware for your device. Lets say you have a LG V20 and you are looking for firmware well there are at least 5 different Model numbers for this device H910, H918, LS997, US996, VS995. The best way to figure out your model number is looking on the back of the device or under the battery and back cover. Another awesome method is to type in *#06# to your phone Dialer to get your IMEI or look in settings app and then about phone to find the IMEI that way. You can also get the IMEI from the back of the device under the battery its normally a 15 digit number like 356304044433231.

If you have your device IMEI number you can directly search LG server for firmware and more info on your device by using this link.

You need to change the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX to your device IMEI number.

As you can see above there is a lot of great info in this XML file like the model number and even better for some device the URL for downloading firmware for this LG device based on the IMEI. This method of finding your device firmware is error proof since you found it with your IMEI you know for sure you have the right firmware straight from LG.

https://www.xda-developers.com/ you can use the search bar on the top and navigate to your device forum then look in there for firmware files either TOT or KDZ files.

RSD Lite for Mac and Linux

So many people have asked me if RSD lite Program works on Mac or Linux and every time i have to tell them “Nope only windows”. I was on XDA developers and a user named Liboicl uploaded a awesome script that turns Motorola Firmware XML files into fastboot commands for a linux machine. After Downloading and checking it out I decided that I would also make it work on Mac and give it a little face lift. 🙂 NOTE This script also checks the MD5 of each file and compares them to the XML file list.

How to use RSD-FLASH.SH file on your Mac or Linux machines.

  1.  Download the RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux.zip here. scroll down the page a little
  2. Extract the zip to your desktop leaving you with a folders called RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux
  3. Download the Motorola Firmware you need from HERE or HERE then extract all files in firmware.zip to RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux folder.
  4. open a Terminal and CD to folder RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux
  5. Command to flash device is ./rsd-flash.sh [name of xml file you want to use]  EXAMPLES flashfile.xml or servicefile.xml
  6. press enter to start the flash from terminal
  7. watch for any errors. If no errors at the end of the script then press enter to reboot the device.

NOTE

Motorola devices must be in bootloader / AP fastboot mode to use this tool.

  1. Power off device
  2. hold volume down and power to boot the device into AP fastboot mode so that you can flash.

If you have a windows machine that is fine also as you can still use RSD lite form Motorola

I just got home from work to find out that Google released Android N developer preview!!!! So I quickly wrote up a bunch of script files to make it simple to flash this firmware on your Nexus devices. I gave these scripts 2 options on is a full flash with data wipe and the other is firmware no wipe to keep your data in tacked. Hope you enjoy and check back soon as I will be adding to this post later today with some video footage and some pictures 😉 But for now here are the links to this new Android N firmware, just click on your device below. Sony Firmware Restore

Today we will be talking about using FlashTool-0.9.18.4 to restore your Sony android device to stock firmware also to unbrick your device if needed.

Flashing Firmware with Flash Tool Requirements

1. Sony phone or tablet

2. USB cable to connect device to your computer

3. Sony Drivers downloaded and installed

4. Download FlashTool-0.9.18.4 and install

5. Some time. I would plan on 1 hour depending on your internet speeds of course.

Instructions

1. Open FlashTool-0.9.18.4

2. click on devices then check updates scoll through the options and pick your device family

3. look thought this next list for your model. If you right click on branding you can check release and it will show you the version

4. once you have the version you want then click that file and it will download

5. After downloading and extract the firmware along with some decryption you will see this page

6. select all files and click arrow moving them all to the other side like the picture below then click create. once the FTF restore file is created you can flash it.

7. click flash button on the tool that looks like a Lightning bolt. then choose Flashmode. pick your newly pulled firmware from the list and click the flash button.

8. the flash tool will tell you to unplug your device and plug it back in while you are holding the volume down button. keep holding volume down until the flash starts. once 100% the device will reboot it self or you can unplug and manually boot it back up and you will be restored and unbricked. NOTE: if you dont want to wipe out your apps and data uncheck the wipe section boxs.

Samsung Firmware Restore Plus Unbrick

In this tutorial I will be covering two programs that can restore your Samsung phone or tablet. The first program is Odin, a great tool that interfaces with a Samsung device while it is in download mode. The Second program is Kies or Kies 3, another great tool offered by Samsung to help customers manage their tablet or phone. Kies can do a lot more then just restore your device, but in this post I will only be covering the restore and update functions. (NOTE) Odin program is designed only for Windows PC. Samsung Kies works with Windows or mac. Lets start with Odin Instructions, which is my preferred way of unbricking and restoring my devices.

Flashing Firmware with Odin Requirements

1. Samsung phone or tablet

2. USB cable to connect device to your computer

3. Samsung Drivers downloaded and installed

4. Download Odin v3.09

5.  Download your devices latest firmware. (NOTE) The best way to find out what device and firmware you need is to go into phone settings, then about phone. Look at System Version plus build number. Between these you should be able to figure out the firmware you will need. Another good thing to find out is the device code name. Normally a quick Google search can accomplish this task. If you don’t know this info and your device is bricked, then start Googling it. You can get your Samsung firmware from my server or SamMobile.com

 

Instructions

(NOTE) Before you start this process, it is a good idea to backup all your data and fully charge your device. Also, this process will wipe all your data off the device and return it to like new. There are some customized firmware out there that removes the wiping data part of the restore, if you can find them. I check XDA developers site if I am looking for the NO WIPE FIRMWARE

1. Extract (unzip) the firmware file to desktop.

2. Extract Odin zip-file to desktop also.

4. Open Odin v3.09

5. Reboot phone into Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons) from the powered off state.

6. Connect your device to the PC and wait until your drivers install and you get a blue sign in Odin. You should see a com plus a number.   For example: COM 4 Added in the odin program.

7. Add the firmware file by pressing the AP / PDA. After selecting your firmware file, Odin will check the MD5 to make sure you have a good download.

8. Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked.

9. Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes. (NOTE) most firmware restore will take about 10 minutes to flash and then the device will reboot and you need to give it another 10 minutes to boot up. Once the device is fully booted, you can close Odin and unplug your device. DO NOT unplug the device while flashing firmware as this could hard brick your Samsung device.

 

 

Flashing Firmware with Kies Requirements

1. Samsung phone or tablet

2. USB cable to connect device to your computer

3. Download and install Kies or Kies 3 software whichever your device needs.

4. Find your Device Model number and IMEI number. You can find your device model number in download mode. It will be called Product Name or model. The IMEI number can be found under the back cover; sometimes under the battery on the device. (NOTE) if you have a tablet you will need your Serial Number which should be printed somewhere on the back of the device.

Instructions

(NOTE) Before you start this process it is a good idea to backup all your data and fully charge your device. Also this process will wipe all your data off the device and return it to like new. 4. Start the Kies program you downloaded and installed on your computer.

5. Click on Tools on the top bar of kies and select Fimware upgrade and initialization. Then enter your model and IMEI numbers, then click OK.

6. You will now see this screen below and just click start Upgrade to restore the device. Kies will find the right firmware for your device and start to download it. This step will take some time; you may have to come back in a hour if your internet connection is slow. Most new devices have 1.5GB firmware files so this is going to take awhile.

(NOTE) Do not unplug the usb cable from the device during the Firmware Download or it will freeze and you will have to start the download all over again.

Once the firmware is at 100% the device will reboot and it may boot to recovery and install your cell radios or may just reboot. Sit back and wait another 5 to 10 minutes and your device will finish booting up and you will be fully restored and/or unbricked. Go through the setup on the device and enjoy your fixed device 🙂

Motorola Firmware Restore Plus Unbrick

In this tutorial i will be covering restoring and unbricking your motorola device by flashing the stock fimware. We will be using RSD lite (Motorola Program) along with using fastboot and a batch file. This tutorial will be for windows user only since i dont have a mac. First lets cover the older Motorola droid devices that use RSD lite

WARNING Restoring your Motorola firmware will factory reset your device and you will loose all data on the device and have to set it back up like a new phone.

RSD Lite Firmware flash Requirements

1.  Motorola device

2.  USB cable for device

3.  Download the Motorola Drivers and install them your PC

4.  Download RSD lite Program and install it on your PC

5. Download your devices latest firmware. (NOTE) The best way to find out what device and firmware you need is to go into phone settings then about phone. Look at System Version plus build number. Between these you should be able to figure out the firmware you will need. Another good thing to find out is the device code name. Normally a quick Google search can accomplish this task. If you dont know this info and your device is bricked then start Googling it. You can get your motorola firmware from my server or Motofirmware.com

(NOTE) It is highly recommended that your device is fully charged before starting this firmware flash. Older devices have small batteries and can die during the restore which would be bad. The only way to fix a dead bricked motorola android device is with this factory cable that can send power to the device even with a dead battery. This cable comes in really handy at times and can be picked up from amazon if needed.

1. Place your phone into AP Fastboot Mode. Turn off the device then press and hold both volume up and down then hold power, now wait 5 seconds and release then buttons. You should now see a screen like this one.

2. Now connect the USB cable to the device and let the motorola drivers you downloaded and installed on the PC, install for the device. This may take up to 5 minutes.

3. Open the RSD lite program and make sure it sees your device like in the picture below

4. click on the 3 dots where it says file name and select your firmware you downloaded. (NOTE) if the firmware is in a zip then just select it. If you extracted the firmware already, then select the XML file

5. Click start button on RSD lite and sit back and wait for the device to finish the restore. Once the device has finished it will reboot and you will see the setup screen. Now you have unbricked and restored your stock firmware to your Motorola device.

(NOTE) Do not bump or unplug the device while flashing the firmware. This could cause a hard brick and your device will be dead. Also, if  the device gets stuck in a bootloop on reboot, just boot the device into stock android recovery, then wipe data factory reset the device. This will fix the bootloop. Below is a video on this process.

4. Click on the file in the folder ending in .bat This is a batch file that will open and flash all the firmware in this folder. Once the firmware is flashed and if you dont have any errors, then in fastboot mode on the device, select normal power up and the device will power up and be fully restored.

(NOTE) Using a batch file and fastboot to restore your device is the preferred method over RSD lite. RSD lite sometimes hangs on some steps in the XML and can be a real pain. Here is a video of me using a batch file to restore one of my Motorola Android devices.
