  1. I have the adb drivers installed, yet when i try and root, the device reboots to a black screen but never gets to the fastloader, it just sits on waiting for device, I have been able to use the up volume power trick to get it out of the black screen but that is it. Mine is a brand new fire HD 8 with 5.1.1

    • I’m having the same issues. But according to his youtube video of this, someone let RJ know that it doesnt work on the 8″ or 10″ models yet. /if you look at the title now it says 7″

  2. Thanks for the hard work. I was able to root my tablet. Now Trying to install CM12.1 but option 5 (TWRP Recovery) does not seem to work for OS 5.1.1. It hangs out. Also, the unblock OTA is missing from the new super tool. Could it be back again? Thanks again

  3. I’ve downloaded the latest Super tool a few times. Every time I run the batch file it gets as far as listing my device then it shuts off. Any ideas? I can run older versions. Thanks

    • I had the same issue after using a previous version for another tablet. My issue was that the new version’s folder name was changed due to a folder already existing with it’s name. Once I renamed the old folder and removed the “(1)” from the new folder’s name everything ran fine.

  4. I did this and it appeared to work fine now when I open supersu it says my binarys need updating and wants to do normal or twrp/cwm. I just got the kindle yesterday it came with 5.1.1

  5. I did, it says installing please wait… And about 1 minute later it says installation failed! Please reboot and try again I’ve done this several times

  6. I should know better than to try doing something like this with my kids around.

I’m running linux, so I copied the commands for the 5.1.1 root to a separate shell script and changed all of the timeout calls to sleep. Unfortunately, with the distraction caused by grabby children, I missed the fact that the command to push supolicy to the device did not execute because of a typo. root_fire.sh ran just fine, except for the commands to copy supolicy into place and set its security context.

Fixed the script and reran. Now the tablet gets stuck on the boot animation, but I can get a root prompt on it via adb shell.

I’m kinda stumped. If you have any suggestions or advice of where to look for clues as to what’s going on, I’d really appreciate it.

  7. I have fire 7 tablet 5th gen. (35$ black friday). I followed ur CM 12.1 video. Everything worked flawless just the way u had it in ur video, exactly the same way. Now I want to flash the Slim Rom (based on ur most recent youtube video) while keeping some or all of my 3rd party apps, that i have alreadty installed. What steps do I have to follow. Can I have both roms (while running one at a time). Do I have to completely restore the device. Or can I just flash it via flashfire from CM 12.1 and end up with Slim Rom. Thank you.

  8. You mentioned above that the SuperTool works on FireOS 5.1.1. Does the root_fire.zip work for FireOS 5.1.1? Something’s not working for me because I never advance beyond the fastboot screen.

  9. It roots fine, but I can’t get the Google Play Store to work. It keeps giving me a “Check your connection and trya again.” error. Any suggestions? What files does the supertool install when installing the Google Play store? Perhaps I can uninstall them and start over.

    Thanks

    • After awhile it just started working! I think Google Play Services was the culprit. I uninstalled that and reinstalled it. Waited awhile and it began working.

One question, though, will the device ever appear on the Play Store website as a device on the account?

  10. FOR ANYONE GETTING STUCK ON WAITING FOR DEVICE!

I followed the instructions exactly and it would get stuck on waiting for device no matter what I did.

I was getting stuck on waiting for device when I tried to root my fire 7. Load up your device manager while it is stuck and if you see a android device that has a ? on it that is your problem. I updated the driver on that with Android ADB interface and the script immediately started to continue, but fail. Now start the script over and it should work this time. It did for me, hope this helps someone.

  11. I can confirm that based on Bry’s finding, the whole process gets stuck at the Fastboot screen and just hangs there. Regardless of the fact that previous USB driver installation was successful according to both device manager, and supertool. but once you start the tool, and the tablet boots into FastBoot, it hangs, and Device manager now pops up a “Android?”

to go into more specific in solving this problem. Based on Bry’s brief explanation of “Android ADB Interface, you actually have to right click on the “Android?” in device manager, all while the Fire Tablet is stuck at the FastBoot screen, and choose “Browse my computer for driver software”/”Let me pick from a list of Device drivers on my computer”/”show all devices”. hit “next”. Click “Have Disk” and browse to the Supertool “driver” folder, hit ok, and select “Android ADB Interface” and hit next to finish the installation. if you simply just choose “browse my computer for drivers” and navigate to the driver folder, it’ll tell you that the best driver is already installed.

soon as the manual install is finished, the Fastboot proceeded right away with pushing the files.

for those who run into this issue, i know there’s a gotta be a lot of you, hope this helps.

    • The supertool freezes at “waiting for device” when trying to install the fastboot driver, but when I look at my device manager, it shows that the android ADB drivers are installed correctly, no “?”. I reinstall anyways, but the supertool doesn’t progress beyond this point. Any other pointers for this?

  12. This was amazing, thank you. The only thing that didn’t seem to work was the ad removal. The script said that it performed this successfully, but ads keep appearing on the lock screen. I’ve tried rebooting multiple times. It’s a small gripe though for being able to access the Play Store.

  13. Hi, thank you for the fine working tool.
No problems with root and google playstore, but the amazon ads are still there. Is it possible to remove ads in 5.1.1??
    Greetz Bjoern

  14. Everything working well for me except the camera. When I try to open I get a message that says “unfortunately gallery has stopped”. Anyone else having this problem?

  15. Bry:

Can you clarify? Im stuck on the fast boot mode and have the yellow ? on my device manager, i tried to update the driver software through right click/driver/updatedriver/browse my computer/letmepick/have disk/usb

and it states that folder doesn’t contain driver for my device.
What exactly did you do? did you re run the universal add driver setup?

  16. UPDATE:

somehow i searched to this page and it was an old thread with Bry as the last post.
Using Howies guide i was able to get it working

    Thanks!!!

    Urban

  17. This is probably a silly question, but I cannot find the answer anywhere: What is the green android icon labeled “setup” that you see when swiping left from the nova launcher home screen just after a fresh install of slimlp (you show this icon briefly at at 6:54 in your video for slimrom install at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaCBSuUuhRE)? It doesn’t seem to do anything, and I haven’t been able to find a single internet reference to it.

And excellent work, your supertool and the slimrom install worked like a charm.

  18. All worked perfectly on updated 5.1.1. Thanks!

Any way to copy apps to secondary profile?
When I added my wife as a secondary profile, she only sees the default Amazon apps.

  19. Is there any reason that having used this tool to 1) root, 2) block OTA and 3) disable ads on the lock screen on 2 out of my 3 Amazon Fires, both of them don’t have the option for using Fire for Kids Web Browser? The third Amazon Fire, which updated itself to 5.1.1, does have the Kids Web Browser.

All were originally on 5.0.1 when purchased and the last two set up yesterday and I decided to give the tool a try.

    Thanks

  20. Thanks rootjunky,

it looks like I might just have been impatient. After 24(ish)hrs, both tablets received the ‘you have a new browser’ pop-up and Fire for Kids Web Browser is working fine.

One potential issue, perhaps related to PopKey’s above, is that secondary profiles don’t seem to have the OTA updates blocked. Although blocked for the main user (Device Options -> System Updates just goes back to main screen), for a secondary user, Device Options -> System Updates lists the running version and allows to Check Now. Maybe a bit of a backdoor introduced by Amazon?

Running your blocking script again while logged in as the second user doesn’t fix it.

For PopKey, to get the apps loaded on the second profile, use ES Explorer to backup any installed App (think it goes to /sdcard/Backups) and then use ES Explorer to install the created .apk file in this folder and this will bring the App into your second profile. ES Explorer is available on the Amazon store, but you might need to enable the super user function across multiple users.

  21. Fire OS 5.1.1 boot to twrp isn’t working for me. Drivers installed, root achieved, installed Nova, but would like to flash to CM12.1 to get rid of bloat ware, but won’t boot to twrp.

  22. Hello,

I have a fire 7 5th gen with 5.1.1. I have all the drivers and de batch program works en sees my device. But wen i use option 5 (Boot device to TWRP Recovery from ADB) i get this message:

    downloading ‘boot.img’……
    OKAY [0.261s]
    Booting…..
    FAILED (remote: unknown command)
    finished. total time: 0.272s
    ———————————————————–
[*] TWRP Recovery is booting please wait.
    ————————————————————-
    Press any key to continue…….”

and on the tablet is said:
    “USB transferring….
    USB transferring OK time:247ms Vel:32021KB/s”

    And stays like that.

I tried every thing can anybody help me please.

    With kind regards Didier

  23. I seem to have bricked my device. I accidentally flashed the older version of amazon’s firmware over 5.1.1 and now it doesn’t do anything… Like, at all. The screen doesn’t even turn on when I hold the power button. Is there any hope of unbricking this with a factory cable?

  24. Thank you so much for putting together the scripts and videos. The videos gave me the confidence to try, and it worked well. This enabled me to configure the device the way I wanted so my kids can have a safe experience and do what they need to do. Merry Christmas!

  25. I installed play store on one 5th gen and it worked perfectly. The second comes back invalid apk for the four files. The ADB is working. It comes back with the serial number but will not download the files.

      • I notice that the screen shot at the top of this page has an option to “unblock OTA updates from Amazon”. Could you reinstate this option? It looks like the block option overwrites 3 files. This would be less drastic than reflashing the whole of the firmware (I bought my Kindle Fire from Amazon UK on Black Friday). Also I don’t have a microSD card yet. Thanks.

  26. First of all, thank you! I just used supertool on a 4 hour old kindle on 5.1.1. The comments from Bry and Howie helped tremendously.

Question, do you plan on updating your tool with a 5.1.1 compatible recovery? Out of curiosity is it the recovery that needs to change to be compatible or your tool? I went to CM and TWRP sites and they don’t seem to mention which FireOS version they’re compatible with. Thanks again!

    • the problem is that the new bootloader on fire os 5.1.1 locks the boot twrp and cm recovery features. it has nothing to do with the recovery but is about the locked bootloader on the new os version

  27. Everything seemed to have worked fine, but when I try to sign into my Google account, it says “Couldn’t sign in: There was a problem communicating with Google Servers. Try again later.”

    Any ideas?

  28. I have version 5.1.1 and I used the Super Tool. Now when I try option 2 (Install Google Play and Remove Ads) or option 9 (Remove Ads on 5.1.1) All I get is:
‘adb’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.
Press any key to continue . . .
when I run the commands it brings up adb errors over and over. I even tried the UniversalAdbDriverSetup. But nothing works.

  29. Good tool for me to have google store but I have problem with facebook app and facebook messenger. they are hang up and forced close. I don’t know what’s wrong. Can you try it? it works for while and then the next day, the problem happened.

  30. Thank you very much for all your work. I spent the day trying to turn my wife’s Fire 5HD into a real android tablet. After pursuing innumerable rabbits down innumerable rabbit holes, I stumbled on your video on youtube. Half an hour later, DONE! Any chance you could look at Verizon’s Ellipsis someday? Mine was rootable until the OTA to 5.1.1.

    Kirk

  31. Great work! Any word on unlocking the bootloader so we can get custom recovery would it be possible to flash a custom recovery using flash fire The same way we flash slim rom?

    • nope if you flash a custom recovery to the recovery partition the botoloader will not boot it and you will be stuck without any recovery stock or custom. that wouldnt be good

  32. Thank you so much for this tool! It is making our inexpensive Kindle Fire units the perfect tool for office use in my non-profit.

Does anyone know if there is a way to log into multiple Google accounts via the Kindle Fire with Play Store installed? I have apps/movies purchased through multiple accounts that I would like access to.

    Thanks.

  33. I’m having issues with the add lock screen returning after using the supertool. I have two fire tablets and they both encountered this.

  34. Thankyou to Bry and Howie for your very precise solutions, it was great having been armed with those posts (along with the how-to video from RJ) going into this process as a first timer, as I encountered both head-scratching moments.

Thanks of course to RJ for the awesome that is my sleek new business tablet .

    Amazon Kindle Fire 7″ model# SV98LN on Fire (5.1.1).
Tool worked like a charm. I was impressed to see walkthrough solutions for common hangups included in the batch program, feels like easy mode. Great work.

  35. Hi, I followed your restore firmware video and sideloaded the latest OS binary via ADB which reported successful. When I go into Device Options -> System Updates, it still bombs out like it did before. Please advise.

    • OK – I managed to sort it by examining your .bat file. First of all I had to re-root the Kindle – I had previously removed root by going into SuperSU, Settings, and chose “Full unroot”.

      adb start-server
      adb shell su -c “chmod 777 /cache”
adb shell su -c “pm enable com.amazon.otaverifier”
adb shell su -c “pm enable com.amazon.device.software.ota”
adb shell su -c “pm enable com.amazon.settings.systemupdates”

and then I removed root again.

  36. Hey RootJunky, first off thanks for such an awesome tool and step by step video. The community is in your debt!
I do have a little problem though, something I have seen quite a bit in the youtube comments for this tool. I keep getting stuck in fastboot. I’m using the fire 7″ and running 5.1.1. Device Manager shows the installed drivers. the Supertool recognizes the device, showing that adb is recognizing the device. However, when I try to verify driver installation or root the device, when it comes time for the device to go into fastboot mode, it just gets stuck. I did a factory reset on the deivce and tried again, didn’t work. I’ve tried opening device manager while stuck in fastboot and finding the drivers inside of the main folder, it wont recognize the android_winusb file as the correct driver (in either of the usb driver folders). I’m not sure what the problem is or where to go from here.

I know you are swamped with comments here and on youtube and most of them seem to have come up right over Christmas weekend, so please, feel free to take your time. Looking forward to your reply.

    • Cancel that! Did that same process again (locating driver while stuck in fastboot) and on the 3rd attempt it recognized the drivers and worked great. Just verified driver installation using the supertool and now I’m on to the next step, rooting! Thanks for the awesome tool

      • The driver was never recognised on my Windows 7 64-bit machine in any of the steps, so I added it manually by going into Device Manager, right click on the Fire device that had an yellow exclamation mark, select Update Driver Software, click Browse my computer …, click Let me pick …, scroll down the manufacturer list until you find Google Inc (there maybe more than one), and choose the ‘Android Composite ADB Interface’ driver and ignore any warning if says it is unsigned.

  37. This looks excellent, just what I need but running linux. Is there a safe way of doing this by entering commands in shell?
I’ve blocked the ads, but want to get shot of the amazon launcher and run nova.
    Thanks,
    Dozer.

  38. Hi. I’mm a complete novice with Android and Amazon Fire. Trying to root the device today and I’ve selected option 1 to install the driver and had the message that the driver successfully installed. I then selected option 2 to test the driver (from the initial option 1 on the main menu), and I just have the Fire with a black screen with “FASTBOOT mode….” displayed. Tried reinstalling the driver again and whilst it says it is successful I still have this black screen and my device is not listed when I run the BAT file.

    Any help?

    Thanks.

  39. Keep up the good work junkie. Worked like a charm, just as your video instructed. Had to install drivers, but was peice of yummy cake. Mmmmmmm

  40. I used option 9. I’m assuming the cache had to clear out because it doesn’t have lock screen adds today. Thanks for the help and the tool.

  41. and update on twrp or cm on 5.1.1? got mine for Christmas and it came preloaded. This was my first hack since jailbreaking my iphone years ago and want to thank you for making it so straight forward.

  42. Yeah that video was the most helpful thats how I got cm12 installed but tried to install xposed framework and got stuck in a bootloop without being able to flash ROMs from safe mode I had to reinstall Amazon firmware and start all over again a custom bootloader would have helped alot, that is unless you know how to install xposed on a cm12 kindle fire 7″ using only flashfire

  43. I’m having trouble finding the developer options on CM12 that I flashed using the super tool. if anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

  44. I have my Fire rooted fine from a previous release. Should I run your updated Super Tool? My Fire sometimes crashes, running Apex launcher.

  45. Excellent tool!

I have rooted it, replaced the laucher, installed google play, blocked OTA updates…but when I try and remove the adds using option 9 – I get the following error “Error: Could not access the Package Manager. Is the system running?”

    Any ideas?

  46. Don’t know if already asked but,
does exist a supertool version for Mac side?
Any chance?Otherwise i’ll go with bootcamp.
    Thanks

  47. Brand new 5th gen 5.1.1 here with a problem. Windows 10 64-bit.

I was able to install play store, but root doesnt work due to fast boot hang. When in fastboot i check my device manager and it shows as ‘HTC dream’, but in normal mode it shows as ‘ADB Composite Device’.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  48. Thanks for these useful tools. I have a different problem from any posted here:

I routed my device successfully but didn’t turn off updates, so this morning it updated to v5.1.1 and I can’t root it again. Using the supertool options 7 (to root) then 2 (v5.1.1), I get to fastboot just fine but then upon re-booting I get errors as follows… something to do with the ADB server… any ideas as to why?

    (bootloader) APPEND KERNEL CMDLINE

    • sounds like you are running adb from a different location then the supertool folder and so it cant find the files folder in the supertool you need to kill adb from the other location and run it again

  50. Mine gets stuck trying to root. It also will not see my device when it goes into your program. It also does not have the drivers installed. the ADB ones. I tried to install, but can’t REALLY WANT TO ROOT, BUT CANT FIGURE IT OUT 🙁

I did install the drivers from the supertool package, and it shows as ‘Fire’ in the device manager and when in fastboot mode shows as ‘Fastboot Interface’.

    Any suggestions?

  52. I tried to install the drivers from Supertool and the windows and the Windows Device Manager window pops up. I can’t get beyond that. I’m running XP. What do I do next? Help!

  53. Even though I only got my Fire 7 brand new at Xmas it’s 5.0.1.
Should I first update to 5.1.1, before attempting to root?

  54. Failed to root…. I am getting the error message:
‘adb’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    There might be a typo on lines 393, 413, 468 and 523 of 1-Amazon-Fire-5th-gen.bat:
    files\adb.exe wait-for-device && adb remount
    Should it be?
    files\adb.exe wait-for-device && files\adb.exe remount

Please let me know… I am very eager to root the device and remove ads.

      • No, the problem is that the /system in the device is read-only, and this is why the operations can’t be carried out.

  55. When i plug in the Kindle it first shows as “Fire”. Then when I load the first batch files it says it can’t find the path. So I install the ADB drive,r it all says it installed correctly. After that I Load up the tool again and it still cant find the path. Im i installing the wrong driver? I already tried “KindleDrivers” and the “UniversalAdbDriverSetup”. What else can i do?

  56. so when i try to root the device it gets to the fast boot windows, but when i continue it says “Timeout is not recognized as an internal or external command.

    • you use supertool on win 10? Me too.
Then i root kindle on win 7 64b, its ok. Next, i use Flashfire to install Slimrom and Gapps (3 files), done! Have fun

      • At fist i tried with my windows 7 vmware on my mac. Long story short it failed. So i when and dug out my old Dell running xp and tried to run the program. It would well until i tried to root it thats when it said it “Timeout is not recognized as an internal or external command”. Idk if this is only good for windows 7-8 or what. But I’m having a hard time getting it to work.

  57. Just ordered my Amazon Fire 7 and I just found your website. Your SuperTool does EVERYTHING I am looking for, including installing the Apex Launcher. My Amazon Fire should be here in a couple of days.

One question for you: I’m running Windows 10 version 1511. Will your SuperTool run properly under Windows 10?

Thanks for all of your amazing work. Will leave feedback later after I try your SuperTool.

  58. Well it doesnt work for me at all :O
I tried to start it on two PCs ( Vista and 7) and the cmd always says FINDSTR: (Path of the .bat file) not able to open.

It happend on both computers. So it must be my fault right?

  59. Hello rootjunky, happy new year with health specially.
Mine is a Fire 5th Generation, with OS5.1.1.
My pc is using Windows 7.
The problem is that when I plug my Fire to the PC, it begins to install the drivers, but end up saying that the “drivers were not sucessfully installled since they were not found”.
I go on with the installation, but when follow the instruction in your Supertool and try to Update de drivers, these are not found.
    Any help, please.

And I found the aswer in this site…

  60. Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, trying to root a fire 7 5th gen running 5.1.1. I enabled debugging, downloaded the super-tool, extracted to desktop and followed the steps in rootjunky’s video and installed adb drivers. It fails with the unknown error, I did reinstall the adb android composite driver during the error in the fast boot but it had no effect. I can hear the computer disconnecting and reconnecting, so I think I am just installing the wrong adb file? Is there a step I skipped? Any help appreciated!

  61. Hey RootJunky. Your vids/threads are resourceful, so thanks for your work. My question relates specifically to the Kindle Fire 7″ running 5.1.1 (which I have rooted and am not running SlimRom), and my question is, how in the heck can I enable Mass Storage mode? I have a few TVs, around the house in spare rooms (guests etc) in which I will hook one of my many new 7in fires (you’re not the only one who bought a bunch of them on that $35 black Friday deal haha) via USB to TV, to watch various options from SD. So I really, really need a fix for enabling mass storage mode. It is possible on 4.2+ Android, on many devices, and it would be amazing to see you or some of the one their greats in this field could collaboratively find a fix for this, adb, whatever, or direct me in the right path! Thanks

  62. RJ, thanks for putting so much hard work into this for all of us. I’m getting hung up similar to Bry and Urban above installing the drivers. Unfortunately, when I try to manually install the drivers I get a windows prompt, “The folder you specified doesn’t contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Win x64 based systems.” I have a Dell e7450 Win 8.1 OS. Have any suggestions?

    • I have the same problem. When I try to manually install the driver the following message appears: “The folder you specified doesn’t contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Win x64 based systems.”
I tried to install several adb drivers manually, tried installing drivers with the .exe files, tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0, switched fire from mtp to ptp, updated system, restarted.
In my opinion the problem must be in my windows distribution (because I don’t think that an attached USB device without a driver can influence the behavior of my opeating system). I use Win 7 x64 Professional Build 7600.
Do you have any idea how to fix this?

  63. Just got my Amazon Fire 7. Getting ready to run your lastest SuperTool. A couple of questions through before I start:

    1) Can I pick and choose from your SuperTool menu? i.e. Can I select just steps 1 and 2 and then jump to step 8 without doing the middle steps?

    2) What happens if I perform steps 1, 2, and 8 and do NOT block OTA updates and Amazon sends an update? Will steps 2 & 8 just be “undone” by the OTA update or will something very dire happen?

  64. Starting to explore SuperTool. Have only tried steps 1 and 2 so far. Got the Google Play app installed and working. I have installed the Google Chrome browser and Google Photos, and they seem to work fine.

I have encountered one anomaly that others may or may not have seen. If I install Facebook from Google Play, it will NOT start. If I uninstall that Facebook and install the Facebook from Amazon Apps, that one runs just fine.

Have also noticed the Facebook from Google Play is version 58, while the Facebook from Amazon Apps is version 56.

  65. Just finished using SuperTool to transform my Amazon Fire 7 into a much more useful and valuable tablet. I also just sent you a small donation via PayPal to encourage your work. I’ve modified a lot of tablets over the years, but using SuperTool make the job super easy! Thanks again for SuperTool.

  66. should i upgrade to 5.1.1 ? or stay with 5.0.1? I plan to root.

Also, a suggestion for future feature, the external SD card can’t seem to be used properly on this Fire, as there’s an emulated sdcard folder that’s using internal storage. I was looking at app like Obb on SD. Maybe Supertool can support this too.

    thx,

  67. when i go to the batch it dont show a device connected so i follow the indtrutions to run adb and it takes me to device manager.i can see the fire tablet in other devices but above that i have mt65xx android phone with the yellow question mark and now matter how manyy times try to update the driver its having non of it.can you advise please

  68. Got 5.1.1. on my new fire tablet. But the adb-activation doesn’t work with 7 times tapping on the serial number. I tried a factory-reset, but it doesn’t work to. Is this problem known?

    best regards

  69. For Mac Users. Copy the script below to root your fire OS 5.1.1. Make sure adb for mac is in the same folder as the supertool. Name the file rootmyfire.sh and put it in the folder with the supertool. Script assumes you unzipped the Supertool into your Downloads folder. ***USE TEXTEDIT not PAGES OR WORD TO SAVE THIS TEXT!!! 70. Oh! I almost forgot. If you are disabling OTA Updates, you’ll need to grant access to root to the adb shell command from your Kindle Fire.

  71. Just noticed the January 10th release of SuperTool. Just last week I applied all the option on the January 4th release to my Amazon Fire 7.

How should I use the January 10th SuperTool?
    1) Just run Option 9 “Update SuperTool File” or
    2) Run all of the Options on the new SuperTool.

  72. Hi RootJunky, Thanks for the SuperTool although everything else works except for the main option which is number 6. • ***UPDATE***

I now have full root access to my Amazon device, I think that some of the files that were giving the error messages were corrupted and therefore last night I re-installed/restored the android 5.1.1 firmware to the tablet and this resolved the problem :)…

    Thanks!

  74. attempted to flash twrp recovery and am now stuck on a silver amazon bootloop. tool will not recognize device anymore. only thing i can do is get it to fastboot mode and then cannot run any unbricking tools. Help if you can

  75. Everything worked fine for me, except I can’t get an app locker to work after the last update. The “Usage Access” switches either appear in the manager and don’t work, or they don’t appear at all. So none of the app lock programs will work because they say they don’t have access. Is anyone else having this problem?

    • I finally found a way to make them work. (I know I am answering my own question but I thought it might be useful to someone.)

      Install Nova Launcher.
Click empty area and select Widgets.
Find Nova Launcher in widgets and locate Activities.
Hold Activities down and drag to open space.
Click Settings and scroll down to Apps with Usage Access.
Click the widget that you created and find the app name.
Click the slider to turn on App Usage for that app.
You should be good to go.

      • Thanks SO much for sharing this info. I installed the Media Insiders app on my Fire and it needed App Usage turned on, but I couldn’t even find the option anywhere in the settings. And every forum online where someone asked how to do this, it was for something like Malwarebytes and they’d just be told to email their support for help. It was driving me nuts. But your solution worked perfectly. I already had Apex Launcher for when I can’t deal with the Fire’s overly-simplistic settings/options, but I’m just going to switch to Nova for such needs now.

        Thanks again!

  76. Hey whenever I open the super tool I am getting

“The system cannot find the path specified.”

I verified my default paths and added a new path as to make sure I wasn’t surpassing the 256 character path restriction and still no go any ideas?

  77. Hello. I am having the same issue as “demonm”. I have installed all drivers as instructed and everything looks good to go. I was also successful in installing the Google Play Store and it works fine. The problem I am having is ROOTING the device. I am running FireOS 5.1.1 on an HD 8″. You had stated up above that rooting it should work but some functions may not. I’m not sure if the ROOTING function is what you were talking about or a function within the device after a ROOT has been performed.

I get the same error as “demonm”, pretty much verbatim. Throughout the error it states “Read-only file system”, “Unable to open /system/bin”, etc. It ends with “override rwxr-xr-x root:shell for ‘/system/bin/app_process32?’ No matter what key I press here, nothing happens; the Kindle also NEVER says Fastboot on the screen, it is just blank.

I just want to know if the rooting process will work on the HD 8” since you weren’t clear about it earlier.

    THANK YOU ROOTJUNKY!

  78. I been able to root a few fires with no problems, but on the last one, it took the root, but now that I want to add the play store, the only thing it say is “cant find specified path” I even tried re downloading the tool and nothing. What do I do?!

  79. I can’t download the SuperTool II don’t know why.. that’s the message appear on the page :

Warning: mysql_connect(): Too many connections in /home/roojunky/public_html/config.php on line 52
Could not connect: Too many connections

    I need the program

  80. Hi, i´m having a special problem which i couldn´t find in the comments: Drivers are ok, tested with tool, downloaded latest version, tool finds the fire and starts: fastboot … then it reboots the first time and is trying to copy the files but then my fire just boots normally. I installed the playstore with the tool, it worked without a problem, but everything that requires multiple tool reboots just won´t work.

    Any Ideas?

    Anyway, Good Work! 🙂

  81. Hi, having issues with this.
Running the bat file, I get past the first kill and start of the ADB, then past the list of devices, but at that point, the process stops, and comes up with this in the cmd box:

    ——————————————————————————–
\AmazonFire5thGenSuperTool\1-Amazon-Fire-5th-gen.bat””‘) was unexpected at this time.

    F:\Other\Android and Rooting\Kindle Fire (early 2016)\AmazonFire5thGenSuperTool>

    Any ideas?
Could do with help with this ASAP!
    Thanks! Jack.

    • Hello all,
anyone having this same issue, or with the tool just closing after showing the connected devices, just put the files on your desktop, not on some other hard drive like me…

MAKE SURE FILES ARE ON DESKTOP!

      I feel stupid…

      Jack.

  82. So, does the Amazon boot loader have the ability to try to reload the factory ROM? I am just wanting to make sure that once I install the slim ROM, it is safe in that state. It would seem that the OTA blocking would only be needed if you stayed on the factory ROM, but rooted it. Just looking for confirmation. Thanks.

  83. Hi all,

I have rooted my Fire tablet with FireOS 5.1.1. Google now launcher is also installed. After that, I reset my Fire tablet to factory reset. Then I cannot access to my tablet. It seems that there is no launcher at all. I can install Google service and Google Play. But when I re-rooted my Fire (or other options on super root tool), after rebooting, I cannot access to my Fire, Fire logo appear and loading for long time ( I do not know how much time). It seems forever. :(. Any help?

  84. I fix “Error: Could not access the Package Manager. Is the system running?” in option 8. I do the extracted script steps, in console

  85. First and foremost, I am a super n00b at this and don’t know the 1st thing. I purchased a KF5G on amazon 2 days ago as it was on super sale for 19.99. I bought it with full intent on making it an Android tablet and boy am I glad I found RootJunky. Between the YT vids, the DL page and here, I had no problem going to town on that poor Fire. It stood no chance. I took it out of the box last night when it got here and within an hour, I was rooted, had ads removed, play store installed and Nova launcher running on it. Man, what a difference it makes on that lilttle tablet.

Tonight , I may try slimRom after I research it. Also, I may try CM, if I get that brave! 🙂

One question I have is in my current status, can I delete applications off the kindle I dont need like GoodReads, kid browser, etc – I want it to be a android tablet devoid of any amazon crap whatsoever. I tried titanium backup to try and delete GoodReads – while it said, it did – the icon was in my apps and I cannot choose Uninstall. Any ideas on what to do here?

Thanks RootJUnky for all your hard work and getting this done, though! You made it super easy for n00bhackz0rz!

  86. When I open up the “supertool” it loads up and everything but for some reason it cant find my device. Are there any prerequisites I have to do before I even open the program? I literally looked up fire 5.1.1 root, found this website, and followed the instructions in the video. I’m sorry if this is a stupid question and you are slamming you face against a brick wall, but if you could help me you might literally be a god among men.

  87. Ok so i am very novice when it comes to rooting and all so please excuse my noobiness. Ok, so when i am using the super tool my fire tablet is in ADB mode and i open the Super Tool batch file and it tells me ADB Server didnt ACK *Failed to start daemon* so i follow the steps on the tool to install this ADB driver all the way thru the device manager stuff and i click “i have disk” i browse to the usb_driver folder in the super tool and the only file i can choose to “open” is “android_winusb” when i click “ok” after selecting that file i get a message stating, “the folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems.” That is all the further i can get in progression. I am running Windows 10 OS on my laptop. Please someone help me, this shit is frustrating. Thanks in advance.

  88. Please help, I have made my fire7 death

    Hello, you ask for help.
    I have my Fire 7 5th ruined.
Had CM12 flashed over fastfire, and the tab is now hanging at the start on the CM logo.
I’m not into the recovery menu, it only light up the Amazon logo if I want to Recovery.
Fastboot is still working, but I just do not get ahead.
Sorry for my English, I am using Google translator. Thanks for any help

  89. hello,
i have brick my amazon fire 2015 routed with supertool and cm 12.1 flashed with flasfire.
i have only fastboot and no adb
Please help me for repair my tablet
is possible to unbrick with flashing update-kindle-global-37.5.4.1_user_541112720.bin ?
    How?

    thank you
    Samquad

  90. Could you explain why TWRP can’t be booted on Amazon Fire 5th Generation 7″ tablet? I’ve tried every which way and had the same problem as a previous poster on this site.

    Is Amazon blocking custom recovery?
Is there another similar custom recovery that will work on 5.1.1.?

Can one revert to the previous OS version before 5.1.1.?

    Thanks.

  91. Hey man I just want to say a BIG BIG thanks for the video help with my new Fire 7 (that I paid all of $40 for!!). Your video walked me through everything nicely, and with the slight setback of trying to install the ADB drivers correctly, your Supertool worked GREAT!
I now have a great cheap android tablet and it actually runs decent for the lowly CPU it has!

    Thanks again!

  92. SuperTool worked great for everything but removing ads from a *wakeup*. It removed them from first boot but they’re still showing up whenever it awakens from sleep. All other functions — adding playstore, rooting, etc. — work great.

  93. So RJ, I have to admit I am having a great time, and it is super cool that you are taking the time to help folks.

I used the instructions you gave to Andrej, “supertool script 2 and boot to recovery to adb sideload the stock firmware from amazon to fix it”

I know see: Amazon system recovery with 7 options 1. reboot, 2. apply update… 3. wipe data to factory rest 4. wipe cache… 6.reboot to bootloader AND 7. power down

I’m thinking option 2. “Apply update from ADB: The Android Debug Bridge allows you to plug your device into your PC and issue commands from there. It’s designed for developers and requires you to install the Android SDK (software development kit). If you’re interested you can find out more at the Android developer website.”

    Right choice?

  94. I took that choice, it came back with “Now send the package to the device with “adb sideload “…

I tried to sideload Flashfire with the SuperTool… no go. Kept returning “server not running”

Now it reads, “Timed out waiting for package. Installation aborted.”

    Progress…

    • Yeah i have always been a windows fan it was the first OS i used and just cant change now. I could rewrite it for linux. But if you are a linux fan i am surprised you can look at the script and just do all the commands manually

  95. Hi RJ – Discovered your site yesterday and now my Fire has Nova Launcher. Thank you so much – what an awesome package your SuperTool is.

I only really have one issue with the Fire and I don’t know if it can be overcome. On our enterprise wi-fi at work there are certain things that I can’t do. I can browse the internet fine but I can’t download Kindle books. I can browse the Google Play store but not install. Outlook says it’s off line. All of this works fine on my wi-fi at home. I spoke at length to Amazon tech support and they said it was a feature – only the Kindle Paper White would work on enterprise wifi, the others require peer-to-peer. If you know of any way around this I might even remember you in my will!

    John

  96. I went ahead and downloaded the stock firmware from amazonstock firmware from amazon, copoed it to the root of internal drive and rebooted.

    No change.

  97. It changed!

It seems to have worked its way through something. I have a desktop now, though still no Google Play. I have to see how stable it is. If I am able to get Flashfire on it in its CM mode I can restore the previous image. Can I ‘sideload’ that some how?

I’m still not clear how I could have flashed the recovery file from a usb, if I even could have. But it make sense that someone would have thought of that. I mean, how can you recover from a black device. I need to find a face2face contact and have a talk. Good to feel progress. It is one thing to get it all up and all. It is another to replicate it three times.

Thanks RJ, for the place, space and forum.

  98. Hey guys, I’m having trouble getting CM12.1 on my new tablet. I’m running 5.0.1 and I’ve never connected it to the internet since I heard it updates automatically. I’ve tried using the AmazonFire5thGenSuperTool and I’m getting “This doesn’t work on Amazon Fire OS 5.1.1 bootloader has been locked, first you must turn on ADB Debugging, etc. also make sure your drivers are installed”. I’ve enabled debugging and I’ve installed ABD and fastboot, but I keep getting caught up here. My next guess is to flash the TWRP_Fire_2.8.7.0_adb.img file, but I don’t know how to do that. Can anyone please walk me through this step since this might work instead? I’d really appreciate it. By the way, it’s showing up in the Device Manager under “Fire Devices” “Android Composite ADB Interface and under “Portable Devices” “Fire”.

  99. I’ve previously flashed the CM image. Since I have no recovery. only fastboot.
When I boot into recovery, only the Amzon logo and nothing comes on, no ADB recovery, no wipe, no reboot, simply nothing.
you can save the tab yet, or I can now throw away?

  100. Hey guys – Awesome tools.

Just one fast Q, and what would I do if I needed to get this back to factory stock?

Would that be option 5, FlashFire?

    Thanks again!

    Dave

  101. After using tool and installing Nova launcher, I can not switch launchers. I have Google launcher downloaded, but I can’t switch to it. Any help is appreciated.

  102. Everything was working fine with SlimLP then I started getting system errors. I then flash-fired the ROM again but, evidently, there was a problem because I can’t get past the opening screen … it tells me setup has quit.

So I tried the recovery but I can’t get the PC to recognize the device, at all. The adb sideload command says null device. Tried installing the drivers again, doing what I did before — and everything else I could find — but no joy.

    Is this device finished?

  103. I bought two of these 5th gen tablets. With one I was able to root and use flashfire to get CM running…. on the other I cannot get it to root. It keeps on showing me adb errors “Adb out of date killing “. Any ideas as I am at a loss. I have restarted , reinstalled drivers, installed the android sdk, tried different systems (all of my are win10 64bit). I am not sure what to try next.

  104. Got a path not found error in the .bat file. Checking it I saw that you have “C:\Windows\…” hardcoded into your script!

This is why %windir% exists. Not everyone has Windows on the C: drive nor in a directory called “Windows”. E.g., on a multi-boot system one might have Win7 in C:\windows7.

(Note that “c:” also appears in the bat file as a parameter but not as a volume name.)

  105. I have a Kindle Fire HD 10 and used the supertool to install Google Play Store. Everything worked fine until I noticed I had assigned GPS to the wrong Google account. Wanted to use the same account as on my Galaxy S6. So I cleared data which didn’t work. Could not find any way to change the GPS account on the Kindle. So I uninstalled GPS and Google Services using Kindle interface. Should not have done that. Now there is no GPS and supertool will not reinstall. How can I clean this up so that I can reinstall with the supertool and then use the correct account? I am willing to factory reset if that is the only or best option.

  106. I tried to root my fire gen 5.

I ran the windows bat file. after the first step ,.i must pressed continue without waiting or some thing like that …

    My Kindle is stuck saying
    ” usb transferring ….”
    “usb tranmission ok time:124ms vel:35889kb/s

waited & finally unpluged teh usb connection .
Not sure what to do at this stage,. please help

  107. hello
I have a fire 5th generation with 5.1.1, did the process in your video with slim rom and all good to flash the rom cm12 was brickeo and only works the fastboot mode does not show the recovery mode and gets stuck in the logo CM12.
I’d appreciate if you could help me, not to do, thank you.

  108. Awesome Tool. Worked flawlessly. Love my tab with Nova and rooted. Thank you for the tools and videos.

A quick question. Live Wallpapers do not work with Fire OS 5.1.1, can anyone tell me if they work with Slim Rom. I would like to use KLWP.. Thanks.

  109. Everything worked fine (using Kindle Fire HDX 7) and I was able to install Play Store. However, when I open the play store it says “Error retrieving information from server. [RH-01]. I can’t download any apps from play store and I’m not sure what to do. Has anyone else had this problem because I can’t find a solution anywhere.

  110. Rootjunky,

First off, awesome work! Thanks for everything you’ve done for the fire community.

I did have one question about Google play services and editing accounts. In all the google apps, if you click on settings and accounts, the OS takes you to the fire OS account settings and not Google services. Is there a way to go direct? In my specific case I want to have two Google accounts but not share mail or hangouts between those accounts, which is possible in stock android. I cant seem to figure this out with this root. Will I need to install a custom ROM for this capability?

    Thanks again!

  111. hi rj & folks! i grabbed this tablet for my kiddo and the price made me brave enough to root my first device using this rj supertool. i even flashed the slimrom os using flash fire! my problem now is that the google thingies are now refusing to play nice. i keep getting the rh-01 error in the play store. i’ve uninstalled and reinstalled all of the gapps quite a few times, rebooted, deleted and re-added the google account info from the tablet, all to no avail. any help? tia!

  112. Big work, thank you!

I used your SuperTool to root my Fire 7 to prepair flashing CM 12.1. Only installing the usb-drivers was a litle tricky, i had to use the MSI-Files in the SuperTool-Package. No automatic by SuperTool to do this.

But now everything works propper! 🙂

  113. Hey .. I wanna install CM 12 on my Kindle fire 7 , 5 gen 2015 model with fire os 5.1.1.. So I am trying install TWRP recovery tool for it. I tried your tool as well as other options I could find on net but nothing worked. So I was wondering if you have tweaked into that and installed TWRP on fire OS 5.1.1 .. please do update the procedure to do so. Thanks – Harry

  114. Just wanted to say great job on the root tool. I have set up 3 kindles for my kids, and 1 for my mom, as well as a few for neighbors. With your tool, it has become a way more useful device. Thanks for the time and effort put into this.

  115. Hello,
I am trying to properly use this tool but seem to be having trouble loading the fastboot properly. Im not sure if im installing drivers correctly, I do not get the fastboot text to come up on the screen when it goes black. I managed to install google play but i am unable to removed the ads and nova launcher. i get a failed message?? Can you help?
    Thanks

  116. hi ! first of all thx for those scripts, great work !

I have a problem with my fire 7, i was trying to install cm and it got stuck on the installation and never finish so eventually the battery die, when i turn it on in gets stuck on cm logo and a cant access to sideload with adb because the recovery menu (vol + pwr) doesn’t show up, i can only use fastboot. if you have any ideas about how to stop the loop or recover the recovery menu i will be really thankful !! — Alejandro

  117. I had no problem installing CM 12.1 on my (previously unused) 2015 7″ Fire Tablet which was on 5.0.1.

However, I can’t move apps to the SD card. Every time I try, it seems to work but then the app disappears after a reboot.

I’ve found various references to this issue on the web, but not found a solution yet. Does anyone have one please? If I can do this then the tablet becomes really useful. If I can’t my use will be limited.

  118. Hey buddy

How could I update the system software update after root?
I did root my fire tab in January with OS version 5.1.1
Now amazon released a new version of system software 5.6.1.1 (paperwhite) for 5th generation kindle fire.
But the problem is I can’t update it by system update option.
Can you show me how to do it manually, please?
    Thank you

  119. Don’t have a Windows machine. . From comment stream will be unable to load SuperTool on to my 5th Gen 7. Any other options available? .

  120. Just discovered my Fire 7 5th gen was OTA updated to 5.1.2 even though it was set to not to. Much is missing. Recent still shows some of the missing apps and rthey still work……….hmmmm.

  121. Hi Have been using Nova Launcher installed through SuperTool for a couple of months – but left OS updates turned on, OS updated over weekend and thought I could just use Supertool again to install Nova Launcher – but now get ‘Remount failed’ error and process stops during cp phase. Can you help

  122. Hello. I have a Kindle Fire 7 5th with “Fire OS 5.1.2”

I would like to install the CM12.1

    How can I do?

I tried the Supertool but does not work.
I tried the root but does not work.

    How can I do?

    Thank you

  123. Waiting on the SuperTool for the Amazon Fire 5th 5.1.2 root. They done something on the Amazon Fire 5th update to where the permission will blocked the paths. Funny that there no problem installing the Google Play Store though.

    adb remount
remount of system failed: Permission denied
    remount failed

    adb shell mount -o remount,rw /
    mount: Permission denied

    adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
    mount: Permission denied

    adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/mtdblock3 /system
    mount: Permission denied

      • I wonder what will happen to swap the boot.img for the older one? Both of these at 4.24mb but the size aren’t really the same. Little bit more on kb size added. I gonna test it out with the 5.1.1 boot.img to see it pass with the rest of the 5.1.2 files.

  124. I bought a new Amazon fire fifth generation and have not switched it on or updated it at all, and I am not sure what is the pre-installed FireOS version. Can I still use your method to install CM12? Regards Tom

  125. RJ,

I’m so interested in when you think the Super Tool Root will be updated for Fire OS 5.1.2. Mainly because I just bought a Fire 5th Gen 7 inch tablet.

I know it must take time to hack a new OS that was designed specifically to block rooting and all. I guess I’ll just have to put up with all the Junk Ware that Amazon shoves down our throats.

Keep up the great work on the KF5G7.

  126. Super excited to see the update for 5.1.2. however with the updated supertool, after its opened and recognizes attached device. The supertool closes itself..any ideas?

    • theres a “amazonfire5thgensupertool\1-amazon-fire-5th-gen was unexpected at this time” command that pops up right before it closes

  127. I’m fire os 5.1.2 and i tried to remove lockscreen ads but it didn’t work also how do i install twrp recovery? Do i install twrp trough supertool when it says “boot into twrp”?

    • I got the same problem. Root worked fine but when I try to remove the ads the tablet restarts as it should and after that, the ad is still there (and changing from time to time through Amazon).

  128. Root Junky…back in action with root on 5.1.2! You are the man! Back to blazing fast speeds, was sure slowed down when Amazon hacked into my tablet and did an OTA update. Amazon’s launcher was like running through molasses. One tip to everyone out there…in order for me to get the new root method to work, I had to go to the accessibility section under settings to grant the program special rights before it was successful. Thanks again Root Junky!

  129. I am also having issues with the 5.1.2 supertool closing out has anyone else had this issue besides me and Garret? I would also appreciate some help. It starts to run but instead of going to the above screen it closes after starting it… not sure why I have tried starting it with and without the kindle plugged in to the computer so I am not sure why it is closing out?

  130. I hadnt extracted the supertool to desktop. I was running it from extraction in downloads. Everythings working great now and I really appreciate what you do rootjunky!!!

  131. Is it possible to do a kids launcher through the super tool? I have be trying to install on on 5.1.2 and can not get it to work. Thanks Eric.

      • You’re right, I eventually got it to work. Unfortunately, after a week or so of use the tablet went into a boot loop. It keeps going to “Optimizing system storage and applications…” Sometimes loads all the way, but then a moment later will reboot and do it all over again. Not quite sure where to go from here.

        • Just to update, followed your guide on firmware restore and it solved the boot loop issue. Not sure if I want to re-root or just let my daughter deal with the ads on her lock screen. Tempted to just leave it as-is now that it’s working. At least Google Play store is still working. Interestingly, the firmware reset didn’t wipe that or any of the apps she’d loaded from it.

  132. kingroot network error
    what to do

connect the tablet to your wifi

tablet is connected to the WI-FI but the problem persists

is there any other way to get Root

  133. Rooted and back to Nova in the simplest of processes thanks to ROOTJUNKY. The difference between FireOS and Nova is incredible. I’m so happy to have MY tablet back. Rootjunky, can’t thank you enough. The new script worked like a charm, you’re a very clever boy! Well done mate, highly recommended new script.
    Regards,
    Pete

  134. you can ignore/delete my comment. i tried again and got everything settled out.

again, thanks for the work you’ve done in creating an awesome tool.

  135. windows 7, fire os 5.1.2

the adb install didn’t complain, but didn’t get much feedback

so I tried to install root

    “installing kingroot now

    error: device ‘null’ not found
    – waiting for device –

    and it stops there.

  136. ok I need help! I run the first bat file and it shows my device then does nothing? I’m running windows 10 and the kindle is running Fire OS 5.1.2

  137. I have a Fire 5th gen 7″, 5.1.1. I flashed slimrom with flashfire and now It`s stuck on slimrom boot screen. I can not access ADB recovery, only FastBoot.

I tried to boot a recovery .bin partition in order to get ADB and be able to flash it back to stock, however I always get:

    downloading ‘boot.img’…
    OKAY [ 0.129s]
    booting…
    FAILED (remote: unknown command)
    finished. total time: 0.146s

What I`m trying is possible? Can I boot to the original recovery partition, using:

    fastboot boot recovery recovery.bin?

    How? Thank you,

  138. Thank you to all who contributed, I appreciate you & the effort you placed into this tool. For me personally, simplicity is best when it come to such endeavors. -Thank You for you time, you’ve created a great tool. Peace
Note: I’m on 5.1.2, the tool didn’t work for me at first. Even after multiple reboots and attempts, trying different {but similar} methods through PC and Fire Tablet. What finally did it was a fresh reset to factory defaults of Fire Tab. (Worth it) Trying this time with additional storage in device removed. And a install of the RootJunkysdl.com provided drivers with device not connected to PC. Then after drivers were installed I rebooted my PC and ran The SuperTool, then I made sure the only main application running was the SuperTool. I also verified that the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” Icon was at the bottom right corner before I started. (It’s the small USB with green check mark next to it) It didn’t pop up on first plug in. I hope this helps skeptics and people ready to throw in the towel. Mann, I almost restored my PC to Factory default. And one more thing for some odd reason Device Setup: Installing media. For the device, is stuck on like 5% or so. Don’t let this discourage you. Just install the drivers manually and x that out/ignore it. Funny enough, now there are two of these in my task bar as I type. Peace N Happy Rooting.

  139. Used Supertool to root Amazon Fire 7 5.1.2 and everything worked…for awhile.
A few day later it went into an endless loop of Optimizing system storage and applications.
Tired to unbrick. I get the following message…adb is not recognized as an integral or external command, operable program or batch file.
If i try to get into the Supertool, everything seems to work fine for awhilce. It recognizes the device, shows the serial number of the device, and then the screen disappears.
    Any suggestions?

  140. To get rid of the 5.1.2.1 update.

    //Commands.

    cd “C:\Users\(Name of the account)\Downloads\AmazonFire5thgenSuperTool\files ”
    adb devices
    adb.exe sideload “C:\Users\(Name of the account)\Downloads\update-kindle-global-37.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin”
    pause

    cd “C:\Users\(Name of the account)\Downloads\AmazonFire5thgenSuperTool\files ”
    adb devices
adb install “C:\Users\(Name of the account)\Downloads\(Name of the installer).apk”
    pause

    //Downloads.

    http://rootjunkysdl.com/files/?dir=A…0gen/SuperTool < Download the tools.

    Apps2SD download from here. https://apkpure.com/apps2sd-all-in-o…ealert.apps2sd

    //Read here.

Do a reset to default settings. Let it erase. Hold Vol left and Power after that. Let go the Power after the menu come up. Pick sideload. Load up the cmd and then put in those command. Wait until it is finish re-installing. Don't sign into your account. Don't turn on the WiFi yet. Install KingRoot and then turn on the WiFi. Let it root your devise. Take some time. Even when it fail. Keep trying. After KingRoot rooted your devise. Install the SuperSU next. Now the SuperSU gonna ask you to install the update. Install the update. After the reboot turn off the WiFi. Download any of the Apps2SD free version. Install it using the adb. Go to Link apps to SD card on the Apps2SD. Find these.

    com.amazon.otaverifier
    com.amazon.settings.systemupdates
    com.amazon.device.software.ota

Disabled those. This will turn off the updates. Now those have different names. You click on each app to see what the apk name is. After all three is disabled then turn on the WiFi. Reboot afterward.

  141. Forgot to say this. All it does is put the 5.1.2.1 back to 5.1.2. Do not use this on any version below 5.1.2 at all. Will brick your devise. Don’t even try this above 5.1.2.1. Still might brick your devise.

  142. Working with Fire 7 5.1.2. adb and fastboot working properly, all SuperTool elements work properly. Have tried flashing to SlimRom and Resurection as shown in videos, both fail. Tried flashing via fastboot flash recovery to TWRP, get the following:

    # fastboot flash recovery TWRP_Fire_2.8.7.0_adb.img

target reported max download size of 134217728 bytes
    sending ‘recovery’ (7724 KB)…
    OKAY [ 0.265s]
    writing ‘recovery’…
    FAILED (remote: Flashing not allowed)
    finished. total time: 0.270s

Suspect flashboot is locked yet cannot find instructions to unlock it. FlashFire does appear to work yet does not proceed past initial “Installing” line and never appears to continue (Waited 20 min). Any suggestions?

      • That’s unfortunate yet also very helpful to know. I watched your video for Resurrection, which suggested you used TWRP to flash 5.1.2. Is there another method or a sideload that can be done? Should I attempt to roll back to 5.1.1?

  143. i used your previous supertool back in the days of 5.1.1 but the OTA update broke my root. i started trying this supertool last night and still, kingroot will not root my device. i know your video says to be patient but ive tried to root it over 20 times. in addition, kingroot says my tablet is running 5.1.1 – even though the device itself tells me im running 5.1.2. ive searched all over the internet for a way to downgrade back to 5.1.1 i am going to continue trying kingroot but i dont have high hopes.

    • Cody – I have the exact same problem. I rooted 4 tablets using 5.1.1, but now that I’m on 5.1.2, Rookking will not work. I’ve ready every comment on this page. I’ve even downloaded the latest version of Rootking, 4.9.

I’ve tried it plugged into PC, not plugged in, turn off tablet and back on, I even did a factory reset. Rooting gets to 30% then fails. I tried to root 35 times last night and 15 times this morning. This seems excessive. Do I keep trying? Do I reboot after each fail?

      • yeah i did a factory reset as well, its pretty frustrating. usually i try rooting a couple times then reboot and try again. same as you – ive tried plugged in, not plugged in and the constant reboot. does kingroot say your version of android is 5.1.1? thats somewhat annoying that it happens that way. ive given up after 4 days of constant rebooting and attempted rooting, ill have to wait until the supertool comes out with another update or something. i sincerely hope we succeed eventually.

    • I am seriously trying everything i know how to do. i have tried to root with kingroot and rebooted my 7inch kindle fire multiple times over the past 5 days, potentially 100 times in total. Kingroot ALWAYS fails the root around 30%. the weird thing is that kingroot is reading it as 5.1.1 rather than 5.1.2, do you have any idea if this is what is causing the problem? I have gone into accesibility and switched kingroot to “ON” not sure if that means much. i have deleted kingroot and gone through the root process again and still no luck. please tell me if you can think of anything that might allow root access

  144. I rooted, ran OTA but last night my Kindle started a process of optimizing system storage and apps, which is supposed to take 10 minutes. It takes a lot longer, but then just starts in again. Do I have any option other than factory reset?

  145. kingroot will not get root. It fails at 30% each time and I have rebooted the device numerous times. I need to know what to do here?

  146. My device was updated on 4/20 so I believe it has 5.1.2.1, however in the software update menu in the settings it says “Your device is running Fire OS 5.1.2.” Will the settings show the latest small update correctly? I’ve tried rooting with kingroot ~15 times with no success.

    Thank you!

  147. I have been at this all night a KingRoot will not root my kindle fire. It goes to 30% and fails with no restarts. I’ve rebooted many times and still nothing. Is there a solution? Please help.

    • i have the same situation. does kingroot tell you that you are running Fire OS 5.1.1 even thought its actually 5.1.2? just a curiosity. i really dont know how to fix it either

  148. Was letting the kindle charge up last night and it decided to run the update as soon as it hit 30% battery. Now the kingroot root method is shot. Would there be anyway to push the root commands through adb?

  149. Jared and Cody – same here. Kingroot shows me running 5.1.1 even though it is 5.1.2. It gets to 30% and fails. I’ve tried at least 50 times.

  150. Hi@All
thanks for hard work but on Linux

the Script Error stops on ..FAILED (remote: unknown command)..
then fire 7 reboot to black screen nothing else
    FW 5.1.2
    🙁
any help must remove bloat ware for my kids

  151. Thanks RootJunky, worked on my FW 5.1.2
I did get stuck on the RootKing step I think in the end I tried it four times, then manually rebooted, tried again five times, manually rebooted, then three times, manually rebooted and then finally on the fourth or fifth try it finally worked. Each time it was getting to something like 30% and stopping, though finally worked.
Now to try and get the Kids profiles working as it’s coming up with a message saying can’t get list of apps or something similar!?
Thanks again, really helpful videos and great automated tool.

  152. I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried the kingroot multiple times (with reboots), but it fails just after 30%. I’ve even tried different versions of kingroot, but no luck. Rootjunky, any suggestions?

    • same here, partially im glad at least more than one person has the issue, because it means somebody will figure it out eventually, but of course im sad that we are all roadblocked. i tried to root around 20 times today

  153. Having the same issue. I believe kingroot is reading your android version (which is 5.1.1), not your fireos version (which is 5.1.2).

  154. Same here. Kingroot stops at 30%.
Tried about 20 times, rebooting after every attempt.
    Fire OS 5.1.2
    Build: 31. März 2016, 03:37

  155. NEW INFO!!! 30% issue loop solved…
Hi guys, i was successfully able to solve the 30% failure issue. Here’s how…
After countless hours of useless attempts to root, I decided to take a closer look. Check your device options> system updates. If your fire OS 5.1.2 is dated after March 17 2016, then, do not be deceived. It is actually version 5.1.2.1. It will never root.
You must downgrade to version 5.1.2 dated between feb 15 – mar 01 2016.
RootJunky has all the tutorials available. See the forums on XDA as well. It is a relatively simple process that takes about half hour.
After this, run KINGROOT and BAM! Sweet success. For me, it took only one attempt… Next step, take off your wifi and disable system updates.

PLEASE DO NOT try to downgrade to anything lower than fire OS 5.1.2 as this will brick your device.

    Have a great day ppl

    • Batman, I have spent the past hour looking for links and whatnot in order to downgrade my 5.1.2.1 back to 5.1.2, and I seriously cannot find anything. can you please provide me with a link? also, is it impossible to boot into recovery mode with the recent update? ive tried many times and cannot for the life of me boot into recovery mode.

      • i got far enough that i was sideloading it through adb, (guess i finally got into recovery mode) but it constantly tells me “error device null not found” if literally any human could help me i would be so grateful

  156. Aloha Rootjunky,
First of all, mahalo and thank you for all the effort and work you’ve put in. I was wondering if you have a tutorial or instructions anywhere to show us how to sideload or “downgrade” to fire OS 5.1.2 so that the root will work. It seems like that will solve a lot of peoples problem with the 30% loop. Thank you again for your time!

  157. I have my tablet with me and i can only use supertool at school, can u post the link of the supertool to a different link? SInce i dont have my own laptop, i cant do anything with the link

  158. I have used this before with older versions of the Fire and it was flawless. I just got a new 5.1.2 and it will not root. It says, “Root access is unavailable Model: KFFOWI”. Any help would sure be appreciated.

    • I’m stuck at the same message. I’ve tried multiple times so far with no luck. Bummer. And I can’t find anything else about this error anywhere.

  159. I also have 5.1.2, installed May 4 but cannot get to root, and would love to watch you install the 5.1.2, I’ve got playstore installed and Nova but it won’t load as default. I downloaded Root Checker from playstore and it says I do not have root access. Still have the ads too.

  160. I have the same problem Carin does – Can’t get root on 5.1.2. I bought two tablets, and one was at 5.1.1. It rooted like a charm. But 5.1.2 is no good. Any ideas are much appreciated!

  161. I had firmware 5.1.2.1 (which showed as 5.1.2, so don’t be fooled) – supertool/kingroot failed. I’ve tried about 20 times. Downgrading to “real” 5.1.2 by ADB sideload worked flawless, no settings/data were lost. Use this instruction (with video):

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/unbrick-amazon-fire-7in-2015-5th-gen-t3285294

After that i’ve disabled OTA updates & lockscreen ads, switched to nova launcher and got a perfect fire tab now! Big thanks to rootjunky :)) I appreciate your effort very much!

  162. using latest supertool – Awesome! Thanks. Trying to install google play store and on installing app 1 of 4 keep getting Failure [Install_Failed_Version_Downgrad] Any idea why?
    Thanks man!

  163. Will your Supertool remove Kingroot from my Fire HD 10? Can I also use it to do the Nova Launcher swap and OTA dissable? Want to know before I attempt it that it won’t brick it.

    Thanks in advance

  164. Took dozens of tries but root o downgraded 5.1.2.1 to 5.1.2 flashed update-kindle-global-37.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin used Supertool to install Kingroot with Supertool. Reboot DO NOT connect to wifi, open Kingroot, run it till you get root (4/5x for me) and BAM! ROOT!!!.. One last thing, no custom recovery so no custom rom’s correct? If no cust roms any fix for widgets? It seems the permissions dialog is MIA for them??

  165. It seems like KingRoot can’t root the device anymore, My Fire says it has FireOS 5.1.2 from April 26 2016 King root has no strategies.

  166. Curious about the message on the video on Restoring firmware in the post by Murphy, xda-developers forum, there is a warning at the top that says, DO NOT flash a Lower version firmware, is that referring to a lower version like going from 5.1.2 to 5.1.1, in the 5.1.2.1 downgrade we are discussing, we are actually downgrading, but it seems that at least one person has done it successfully. I have not had the time to do it yet, and just double checking!!.

  167. Great tutorial. I have a 5.1.2 version to root and I am trying to follow your procedures. What type of password did you enter in the tutorial? Thank you very much!

  168. I have a 5.1.2 version of the Fire 7 5th Gen tablet. I downloaded the newest software from this page and followed the Video. It said: 6. root amazon Fire 5th gen on android 5.1.2 and below.

It did not exactly go like the video, but it did give me the choice of 5.1.2 and then from there it installed KingRoot, Then it said to open it and try to get root from my device.

A screen kept coming up trying to block it, so I hit more info and there was a link to allow install anyway which I clicked on.

My device had developer mode enabled, and allowed for apps from unknown sources. But KingRoot kept failing even after several attempts and several reboots. How do we proceed from here to root? I will be waiting for further instructions to root. Thank you very much Root Junkie for your help.

  169. Hello,

I have a fire 7 5th gen with 5.1.2 I have all the drivers and de batch program works en sees my device. But wen i use option 5 (Boot device to TWRP Recovery from ADB) i get this message:

    downloading ‘boot.img’……
    OKAY [0.261s]
    Booting…..
    FAILED (remote: unknown command)
    finished. total time: 0.272s
    ———————————————————–
[*] TWRP Recovery is booting please wait.
    ————————————————————-
    Press any key to continue…….”

and on the tablet is said:
    “USB transferring….
    USB transferring OK time:247ms Vel:32021KB/s”

    And stays like that.

I tried every thing can anybody help me please.

  170. Kingroot doesn’t work on 5.1.2 even though there is an option in the supertool to do so. Kingroot seems to only be avalable for 5.1.1 and wont root 5.1.2, even though the supertool says it should. 30 tries is proof that it doesn’t work.

  171. 5.1.2 (upgraded, not from the factory) on fire 8 (5th gen)

No luck rooting – (I have read kingroot fails on 5.1.2 if it is not the from the factory image)
No luck installed google play (installs but then either spins indefinitely on startup or throws an error about being unable to connect. Tried uninstalling / reinstalling a couple of times with various reboots)
No luck removing ads from lock screen.

    So I’m not doing well!

  172. i just buy and root thois tablet fire when i have the 5.1.1 version, just work very fine., but in the morning i lost the root and the tablet make for its own the upgrade to 5.1.2. I follow the steps with your tool, but the kingroot doesnt work anymore. By the i write this , there is 29 times i rebbot and run the kingroot and have the same results. No root . searching for a new version i found the 4.9 of the king root but have the same. There is another way? can i dowgrade to 5.1.1 ?

  173. Hey guys,

I’m using a Fire 5.1.2, installed ADB drivers and Fastboot without a hitch, my device is always confirmed and I was able to get as far as installing Google Play store. However it always fails for Removing the lock screen ads. Is this a device firmware issue?

  174. Thank you for all of the amazing work RJ.

Just wanted to post an issue I’m having to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I bought a Kindle Fire 7 two weeks ago, downgraded from 5.1.2.1 to 5.1.2 and the supertool worked just fine. Google Play Store ran with no issues. Then I bought a second Fire 7 this week, downgraded from 5.1.2.1 to 5.1.2 and ran the supertool, but this time Google Play Store is not working. Every time I try to log in with my Google account, I get an error message that says “Couldn’t sign in. There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later.” I’m wondering if something in one of the four Google apks is no longer working. Anybody else have this problem?

      • Nope. Thought about looking for updated Google Play Store and Google frameworks apks on my own, but that felt a bit overwhelming. I ultimately ended up just flashing the Nexus rom with FlashFire, and that worked for me.

I still think something is out of date with one of the four apks involved. I just ran the Supertool on my father-in-law’s HD8 and had the same exact issues with Google Play Store. If I can get it to root, I’ll go the Nexus route with the HD8, too. Unfortunately, King Root is not doing much with the HD8 running 5.1.2 at the moment.

  175. @kenny
I just removed ads on my two devices without rooting and so on.
I am still laughing on Amazon support.
I contacted them via chat. Told them the devices are for my kids 3,5 years and the ads are not for children and their needs. The removed them on both devices remote. Just give it a try!!

  176. @rootjunky or somebody who already tested google playstore installation on 5.1.3.

Installation works perfect but I am not able to login with any profile.
I always receive there is a communication error with Google servers. Please try again later.
Did they change dns for Google in 5.1.3 or something like that to restrict it?
    Any ideas?

  177. I’m also running into issues not being able to connect to the server after adding the play store to my stock 5.1.2 Fire OS. same error message as ctaylor593 “Couldn’t sign in. There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later.”

the odd thing that i’m experiencing is that i can log into the Play store using my google account…although the message/error i get is “couldn’t sign in: to access your account you must sign in on the web. touch next to start browser sign in.” and when i click next, i’m successfully signed into the play store. but since this is for more nephews, i’m attempting to login using my sister in laws credentials and that’s when i get the error.

i can take her account and successfully log into it via a browser, so i know what she gave me is correct. she doesn’t have 2-step authentication which some posts call out as a potential issue but i respectfully disagree with that since my account is setup for 2-step.

so i’m uber confused and dont know where to go with this.

    any thoughts?

    thanks,
    dg

    • interesting…it took me writing that post to figure out the work-around…simply have my sister in law turn on 2-step authentication. after doing that i happily came across the error “couldn’t sign in: to access your account you must sign in on the web. touch next to start browser sign in.” which i knew would work. case solved for my issue. hope this helps others.

      dg

  178. Hi RJ
Running Fire OS 5.1.2. Ive tried to reinstall the google play store multiple times and keep running into the same issue where it is having issues communicating with google servers. I see this has been a problem with a few others but I cant seem to find the solution to my problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  179. Hello after using your steps a few months ago I’ve been running lp-fire-nexus-rom 5.1.1
All is great and I thank you for your help but one thing that I can’t seem to find out is how to install apps to the SD card by default? I can’t even use an app to change them. I assume I have to partition but I’m not sure about the process without messing something up. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

  180. After a downgrade to 5.1.1 my KFire is an orange brick. Could not even enter in recovery mode to upgrade to a new version. Any solution for this??

  181. I just want to install Google Play store and remove ads. No desire to root anything. Can I still use the SuperTool to do this if my Fire is on version 5.1.4?? I don’t want to brick it.

  182. Latest version of SuperTool does not work on 5.1.4. Recognizes device, but then closes Command Prompt before going into Tool files

  183. Hello, will you be updating the super tool to work on 5.1.4 ? I would really love to use your tool but I just got my tablet and didn’t know much about root or if it was possible for Kindle fire 5th gen 7”.

  184. Hello i got a question about the nova luncher. Is it compatible with all the new apps on google play design ed for Android 6.0 because it would pointless if went thru all this and its not gonna play any Of apps. And do you put out updates for it ? And how do we back the fires os if this gose sideways ? And its drivers. Lot of things your leaving out this process isn’t %100 would like to know how dig my self out if i have to.

  185. Oh and your site register is broken you sign up but it dont let you enter a password then just sends you in a loop keeps send password rest link but never lets you enter a password.

  186. ok i am stuck. i got to recovery mode and then went to update form ADB but it wont accept any of the drivers you have posted. i downloaded the google drivers but got no idea how to use them they got no install application just files. i installed your universal ADB driver set and kindle drivers form your latest super tool. can you please help me ? my Modal amazon id KFFOWI my fire OS is 5.1.4. i been trying to downgrade but stuck on installing drivers because they keep failing or just cant find any. i must be missing something.

  187. OK so the drivers say there up to date but when i go into update in adb my computer just see it as unspecified device and then windows starts looking for the KFFOWI driver and then says cant find. either i am doing something wrong or Amazon changed there drivers in last update. can you please get back me. thanks 🙂

  188. Adb recognizes my fire 7 on 5.1.3 when on Fire OS. Adb reboot recovery brings me to recovery, then adb doesn’t list the device and cannot communicate with it. Racking my brain with this. Never had these issues on normal android phones lol

  189. Your tools rock dude … Have a Kindle HD10 5th Gen running 5.12 and have rooted with KingRoot and replaced KingRoot with SuperSu (everything working fine) – used your Google play script for the 5th Gen Fire to get the play store up and running. I am aware that your scripts are not fully testing or working on the HD 8 & 10 but was curious if anyone has a method to get Xposed installed and working as FlashFire does not seem to work (have tried and it just hangs when trying to install the Xposed framework)

Any direction or confirmation of this not being possible right now would be greatly appreciated!

  190. Your tools do rock ! New Fire OS 5.1.4 won’t let me unblock adds. Are there any plans for an supertool update?

    • Obviously not based on the reply right above your question … just downgrade to 5.12 via sideload and you are good to go – make sure you block updates after getting rooted ; )

  191. I’m on 5.1.2 stock. Update to 5.1.4 is available but not accepted. I get to the Kingroot step just fine, but it won’t root no matter how many times I try it. I have tried shutting down and restarting the app, and also just hitting Root again a bunch of times. Neither is working.

  192. I found that “rooting” my device did nothing to fix the problem I was having with my device!! I don’t care about Google Play or any thing like that. I’m happy with the Amazon app store…..what I can’t stand is the fact that 60% of the devices memory is used up by ‘bloatware’!!!!! …. and ya can’t put apps on the SD card !!!!!
Rooting did take the ‘icons’ away, but they are still ‘loaded’ on my device and taking up space!!!

How do I remove all that unnecessary crap ??????

  193. Seems like with 5.1.4, it wouldn’t let you install the adb drivers to downgrade via sideload. I’m having the same issue as well. Any other suggestions?

  194. Hiya rootjunky! Just got one of these on PrimeDay planning to put CM on it, it came out of the box with FireOS 5.1.3 though. I see all over the place not to downgrade lower than what was on the device when it is unboxed. Do I have any options here?

    • No, the only way to change the launcher is to install a new one, delete the amazon one, and reboot. Deleting a system app requires root.

  195. rootjunky,

thanks for posting the latest supertool (Firmware-Downgrade-to-Fire-OS-5.1.2-Supertool.zip) on 7/17/2016
but it isn’t fully working yet for those new users who got forced update to firmware 5.3.10 after the 7/17/2016 from Amazon.

This is where it was malfunctioning…

    ——————————————————————————–

[*] you are now in stock android recovery with your volume up and
[*] down keys navigate to apply update from adb
[*] Select that option with power button to start adb sideload mode
    ——————————————————————————–

Press any key to continue . . .

    ——————————————————————————–

[*] starting downgrade process this will take some time up to 20 minutes
[*] its like watching paint dry 🙂
    loading: ‘update-kindle-global-37.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin’
    error: no devices found

The last error says no devices found..

    Two problems I encountered.

After initial run, it reboot itself and got into fastboot mode and it just stays here but the script is expecting
“you are now in stock android recovery with your volume up and down keys navigate to apply update adb”..
But to get into this mode, you have to manually shut down the device first and power on with the keys pressed on the down volume and power for 15-20 secs or more, then only able to get into this menu.

Ok, I did that (sorta to manually get there).. this is where the adb.exe sideload update-kindle-global-37.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin script command should work but it fail and can’t find the device… error: no devices found.

So, I had to manually download the adb driver and perform a separate install first. In another window, google and download it….
Finally, got to the command prompt and folder where the .bin is located and manually type in:
    adb sideload update-kindle-global-37.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin

If everything is progressing .. the command prompt shows:

    C:\FTV>adb sideload update-kindle-global-37.5.4.2_user_542168620.bin

  197. rootjunky
I root my Fire 7 5th Gen Tablet and installed the SlimRom.But something go wrong.
It never ask for my Google account and when i try to open Play Store, this msg show; “Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped”.
    Please, need help. Thank you

  198. I don’t have a browser or any other app, just configuration, contacts and mail.I do not know what happen, every thing run well until the end. Thanks

  199. After days of searching on the internet, come to RootJunky to ask for help from you to a problem with Amazon Fire SV98LN.

My sister bought US 2 tablets SV98LN Amazon model. She could not configure them to access the store of applications as requested identification in the US, not accepting your data (social security number, address in Brazil …). I took a verified and it really was not possible. I decided then root them and install a clean version of ROM and GAPPS. I did the process by ADB in two. The first was perfect, root, download the ROM and GAPPS the recovery, and set up it was perfect, accepting the Gmail data, downloading apps, running very slight, a wonder. The whole problem was with the second, which I describe below:

I made the process of ADB exactly as done in the first, but there must have been some failure in file transfer, because not completed and the computer (with win10) has stopped recognize it. He was giving the intermittent sounds of “connected and disconnected.”

I’ve tried all recovery processes possible software, available on the internet but always run into that for me is the main thing, that “connects and disconnects” does not allow the installation of programs (Odin, RootFire, KindleUmbrick …) recognize the device. He does not go into “download mode”, the computer does not recognize the device, does not care, does not appear that is loading, in short, nothing appears on the screen, just like a dead device.

However, I know that is not entirely dead, because when connected to the computer with USB cable, is in the connects / disconnects.

Already I came across Android smartphones (here at home are all rooteados and unofficial ROMs) in trouble, but I could always recover through the Recovery or Odin, because he could get into download mode (Samsung have a Home button that Amazon does) .

I would like a help here on RootJuncky site if someone has gone through similar problem or know what I can do.

Thank you very much in advance.

  200. I recently got an Amazon Fire 7″ Tablet which came with Fire OS 5.3.1.0. I want to install Google Android Marshmallow 6.0. How do I do it? I tried to follow Rootjunkies instructions but that worked only for Fire OS 5.1.0 . How Do i do it for 5.3.1? Any links, suggestions would greatly help. Thanks!!

  201. Boy I hope Rootjunky can help me, got me an Amazon Fire 5th Gen and after sideload to the latest update, I went ahead and downgrade to version 5.1.2 so I could regain my root status but it got brinked after I select restart. The tablet is totally dead, not charging, not recognizable in windows device manager, nothing at all works. However I saw an article where this can be undone in Linux Desktop using the python software. Don’t know if you guys familiar with it but you basically is my last resort after doing some research,… Anything work trying would be a big help, it’s my tool of my trade, respect.

  202. Hi, i hope you can help me, i got a fire 7 with OS 5.3.1.0, i want to downgrade in order to install slimrom or cyanogen, but i read that the downgrade can brick my tablet, so: is it safe to downgrade to 5.1.2 from 5.3.1 or not?… Thanks in advance.

  203. my own problem is unique, i av successfully installed slimrom on my fire tablet after downgrading to 5.1.2 by following ur tutorial. i restarted the tablet and i got stuck at the slimrom logo, i tried the volume up and power key and i also got stuck at amazon logo.

  204. Just got a fifth gen fire, signed into it and connected it to wifi, which I shouldn’t have, because now it wants to update. I can boot to recovery mode and fastboot mode, and I have the drivers installed. Supertool detects my fire in fastboot mode but only when it first lists devices when it launches. Can I root from here or do I have to let it finish updating then downgrade, then root?

  205. Hi, I have 5.3.1.0, and I want to install the Google Play Store and for some reason it is not letting me do so. Any tips? Is this version compatible for this installation? Thanks in advance!

  206. I’ve figured out why I couldn’t downgrade to 5.1.2 from .3 and .4. Turns out my ADB drivers did not install correctly for my Windows 7. When I try to put the device in recovery mode , the Fire HD would remove itself from Portable Devices in Device Manager and create a new device called “KKFOWI” under Other Devices with a yellow flag.

Follow this Amazon link to install the correct ADB driver.
    https://developer.amazon.com/appsandservices/resources/development-tools/ide-tools/tech-docs/05-setting-up-your-kindle-fire-tablet-for-testing

Thought this might help others that are stumped.

  207. When I try to run the supertool it seems to work, but the 4th app fails to install. It gives me an invalid APK file error. Any chance the download link is just broken or some other easy fix like that? I now have a fire with the Google Settings app, but no Google Play Store. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  208. OK I gotta know if there is a step by step process for installing xposed.

    Kindle fire 7 5th gen

    Device model KFFOWI

    Cynogenmod version
    12.1-20160710-UNOFFICIAL-ford

    Android version
    5.1.1

    Kernal version
    3.10.54+
    Build@ip-10-11-3-120 #1

I need to know the next step to properly installed xposed on this

    Thank you

  209. Thank you so much for this solution. I’m so used to running things as admin to AVOID issues. It never occurred to me that it could actually CAUSE a problem like this. Once I stopped running the Supertool as admin, it started running perfectly.

I successfully rooted my Fire 7, and I’m running CM 12.1 now. FTW!!

    Thanks Sincerely,
    Rogue Ogre

  210. I forgot to mention that I used the Supertool to root my 2015 Fire 7 running Fire OS 5.0.3.1. Hurry, because I narrowly escaped being updated to Fire OS 5.3.1.1!

  211. Hi rootjunky,

I have updated my fire 5th 7in 5.3.1 but it just won’t sign in to google store , I have tried many times, thes remove ads didn’t work either , any ideas??

  212. Hi Tom,

I seem to be facing the issue of not being able to flash anything. When I get into fastboot mode and try to flash twrp recovery, I keep getting an error saying “Flashing not allowed” I am assuming that my bootloader is locked. How can I get around this issue?? I am an absolute noob and this is my first attempt at flashing a custom ROM on a device, so nay help would be highly appreciated.

  213. Trying to downgrade from 5.1.4 to 5.1.2 with your downgrade supertool. Everything seems to go fine until it tries to load in the “update-kindle…” bin then I get an “error: no devices found” and it doesn’t downgrade. I don’t know how long it’s suppose to take to get to the Recovery menu but the timer finishes before the Recovery comes up. I’ve also gotten the same error when i tried to do this manually.

I’ve reinstalled ADB a few times as well as made sure the Kindle drivers were up to date. I can see the Kindle in “Computer” and even copy files to it. I want to put Cyanogenmod on it but just can’t get past this first step.

    MS

  214. I was able to get past this step using info from comments of another place – can’t recall if it was Youtube, Reddit or other at the moment, but it worked. Now trying to root it and it’s not accepting the “boot.img” so here I go again to seek out further info…

    MS

  215. Great tool!!! Thank you thank you thank you!
Had initially some issues. Downloaded 5.3.1 from your link, still SU install not finishing. Reset all to factory and bang.
    Tool is awesome!

  216. Thank you for your effort. It worked pefectly on my device too.

I know my question is little improper in this category, but I need some help..

I want to change language to Korean, but Fire 7 doesn’t support Korean in language setting.
However I found a hidden setting through ‘Quick short maker’. And it looks worked well.
But after reboot, it shows only fire logo..

I can get into Amazon recovery mode. How can I reset it??
Just ‘wipe data/factory reset’ is it okay? Or am I have to downloade .img file?
My device is rooted and using xposed module.

If you reply to my questio, I really appreciate it.
    Thank you for read.

  217. Supertool works well – thanks. Is there any way to remove google accounts, though? Usually on Android you can manage google accounts under Settings>Accounts, but that option is not available after installing the supertool. My kids have put their google accounts on my Fire and I’d like to remove them.
    Thanks.

  218. Hey thank you for this tool, it is much appreciated. In the most recent version, FlashFire is not being installed because the script is referencing FlashFire-v0.53.apk, but the apps directory filename is flashfire-0.53.apk.

  219. I just got the update to 5.3.2.0, also. For some silly reason, I considered leaving my device as stock for the first few days I owned it. By the time I decided to root it, I’d been updated and unable to root it. The KingRoot package that was installed has been unable to root my device on either 5.3.1.1 or 5.3.2.0

I’m worried that I’ve lost any hope of rooting it and replacing the OS with CM12.1.

  220. Hi. I am very grateful for all the work you have done! I have 5.3.1. Last night, I was able to root the device, install google play store, block updates. remove lock screen ads, and change to Nova launcher. WORKED GREAT! I stayed up until 1AM just having fun with the device.

I plugged it in to recharge, and went to use it when I got home from work today. But… The device repeatedly goes through “Optimizing system storage and applications…” over and over again. Can’t get to the main screen except for a quick (1 second?) view of it before it goes through optimizing again. It’s in a loop of some sort.

Any idea what’s happening? How I can get it back to the rooted device I played with last night?

    THANKS!

  221. WOW! Minutes after writing the above post, it stopped with the optimization process looping over and over again (must have gone through it about a dozen times since I got home earlier today.) It gave me the lock screen for about 3 seconds (oooh, much loner than the 1 second I was getting LOL). Now just keeps rebooting over and over again. (No optimization this time…just plain old reboots.)

  222. My first attempt at using the Mac supertool to root my Kindle 7″ 5th Gen. watched the video and while running step one, the prompt for “password” comes up. I assume that this is a root password? How can I pull this from my device as I can’t proceed any further without it? Thanks!

  223. I can confirm that it works with version 5.3.2.0 I have tried it and installed the google store and it works correctly. I have also been able to install Youtube and it works. Removing the ads has not worked and blocking the updates I have not been able to check. Thank you very much.

  224. Dear RootJunky, beginner here on Mac osx and I am having issues with your instructions. Mainly the terminal directions are not working. When I open terminal and do the cd and then drop in your command paste of the file ending in sh nothing is occurring. I have also tried as a test opening that file in Text Wrangler and pasting the contents but it is also not working correctly.

Wondering if you have any idea how to make it work on mac also my fire was trying to update to 5.3.2 I stopped it but not sure if that was a good idea. I restarted the fire and tried again but still no luck. I am on osx 10.11.6

    Thanks David

  225. I just posted this on XDA and then realized this would be a better place for my noob questions…

I have a new Fire 5th Gen on FireOS 5.11, and I am trying to install SlimROM. I have succeeded in installing SuperSU and Google Play and the Nova launcher, and disabling OTA updates.

When I get to installing FlashFire, the download link is broken, but I noticed that RootJunky’s SuperTool has a menu option to install FlashFire. When I try that, I get the following:

[*] Installing FlashFire app this will take some time
    ——————————————————————————–
    [*] Installing app
    Invalid APK file: apps\FlashFire-v0.53.apk
    ——————————————————————————–
[*] FlashFire Installed check your Apps on the device.

Needless to say, there is no FlashFire app on my Fire now (and the process did NOT “take some time”). I have “Apps from Unknown Sources” enabled.

What do I need to do to get FlashFire installed? Do I need an older version of FlashFire to work on 5.1.1?

  226. I got past the last problem I posted but now I’ve run into a new one…

I found a place to download FlashFire v0.53, and it opened and I tried to install SlimROM and mini_gapps. It seemed like it was working – commands were scrolling across a black screen – but at some point my Fire shut down. When I restarted it it made me go through the registration process again, and then there were no apps on the home screen. I tried rooting it again, which seemed to work, but there were still no apps (including SuperSU). I tried resetting to factory settings … still a blank home screen.

I tried re-installing the Play Store, and now I am stuck at the “Optimizing System Storage…” stage for about an hour.

    Any ideas?

  227. I came across this page from a comment on a YouTube video showing how to install Google Play Services without root on the Fire 7. I had successfully installed Google and many apps from the Play store using the no-root method, but just recently I am no longer able to connect to the Play Store or YouTube or anything to do with Google Services.

I was wondering if those who have rooted have noticed the same issue and whether or not it’s related to an Amazon software update/patch to prevent this very thing.

  228. How can you tell which version of OS you are running after you root and turn off OTA Updates?

When I select “System Update” it just blanks out and goes back to the settings screen.

  229. Hi, having issues trying to root amazon fire 7″ running 5.3.1, super tools works but it show this error: Invalid APK file: apps\kingroot.apk

  230. Help!!! I have rooted and flashed cyanogenmod onto my amazon fire but device will not reboot, just stuck on Amazon logo splashscreen. What to do now?

  231. Hello,

I am having issues with your download site. I often cannot reach it (it times out), and when I can get through, I can only partially download the toolkit. It quits partway through.

    Thanks for your help

  232. I am not familiar with Android much at all, so this might be a stupid question, but I have so far managed to: Roll my Fire tablet back from 5.3.2 to 5.3.1, root it, install Google Play, and stop OTA updates, mostly with your SuperTool (which is fantastic, BTW, and thank you). However, I really just want to put Cyanogenmod on it, and can’t get Flashfire to open. Or rather, it opens and immediately shuts down. I tried installing a newer version via Google Play just to see if it’d open, and that version opens but incorrectly thinks I don’t have root.

I saw someone somewhere say that the bug in Flashfire 0.50 can be resolved by temporarily changing your system date to 2013, but apparently, Amazon won’t let you do that.

Is there some alternate method for (relatively) safely installing Cyanogenmod? Or, alternately, is there some way to change the system date back to 2013 so I can try that workaround? As I said, I really don’t know much about Android, so I’m kind of nervous about straying from specific instructions.

Sorry this is so long, but I don’t want to leave out anything important. I’m using the Linux, but I have access to a Windows machine too if necessary.

  233. Just downgraded from 532 to 531 via Windows. Worked without a hitch. I am having trouble though running the supertool – it finds the device and shows the serial number, but then the tool just closes down, instead of moving to the next screen that would allow me to stop OTA updates, install Play Store, etc.. (I haven’t had this problem on an older version of this this tool, but that one only worked for 5.1.1). Any ideas?

  234. I want to get a amazon tablet will the 8inch 2016 version work with using the software and I want on the tablet flash fire or twtp

  235. Everything appears to have gone according to plan…I replaced the launcher with Google Now…it seems to be running a lot slower than my other android hardware (even much older ones). Is this to be expected?

    • I noticed during boot up, it took a while for the sd card to be recognized…so, I decided to start over…this time I made sure to load all apps on internal storage instead of the sd card and I used Nova launcher instead of Google Now. Seems to be running much faster.

  236. I have a Kindle Fire 7″on OS 5.3.2.1. I’ve turned it off, so no further updates will be applied. It appears, when doing a “factory reset that this fire 7″initially boots with an unknown version of firmware, and then updates are applied in the course of boot up. Is it possible to disable the updates, or delete the updates prior to “factory reset (there is no data on the fire that I need to save.) A couple of apps have been added to this Fire 7, but I could remove them. My objective is to downgrade to a firmware that can be rooted.

  237. I also ended up with 5.3.2.1, I tried doing the firmware downgrade you showed for 5.3.2 to go back to 5.3.1 but it did not transfer in sideload, i down loaded the updates for 5.3.2.1 and 5.3.1 from your files and ran supertool option 9. I was able to do options 1, 2, and 8. On 6 it installed RootKing, but that failed and said a request was not enough and I had to wait. I was able to instal Nova, but it was just an app and did not replace Fire since it was not rooted. I also tried doing the firmware downgrade via computer command window and sideload, but it would not transfer the file. Do you have an update in the works that would add root for 5.3.2.1?

  238. Tool says flashfire installed but its not. Tryed the one from playstore but it installed fire os instead wtf? I couldn’t see which version because the menu part doesnt work since i blocked ota updates. By the way because kingroot needs wlan during rooting it downloads a new update but doesnt install it. Maybe flashfire installed the downloaded instead of the selected cya mod (which is in my downloads folder)

  239. Well even with the flashfire which the supertool installed (its never than in your slim install video, more options and so on, i got an fire os instead of cyanogen). Again, I dont know which fire os versiin is installed. I have to sideload again.

  240. error device null not found
then it says waiting for device ..this is the first step
i encounter trying to run super tool on 5th 7″ with 5.3.1

  241. it’s brand new fire 7″ 5th gen with 5.3.1 outta the box i downloaded newest super tool maybe my acer laptop didnt install driver for properly?

  242. I am new to android and I am trying to downgrade my fire 5th gen on 5.1.3 using your downgrade tool so I can try and root it, but everytime It gets hung up on the fastboot screen any thoughts?

  243. Hi, using your supertool, i was able to have kingroot gain root access to my kindle fire 5th gen 5.3.1. But on the supersu step, i inadvertently chose twrp instead of normal. So i repeated kingroot but now it always gets stuck at verifying root status. Will really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot.
